Austin Richardson's Week 7 Re-Cap:

Huskies fall to Sailors, 13-20

The Battle Mountain Huskies move to 2-5 on the season with a heartbreaking loss to the Steamboat Springs Sailors, 13-20.

The tone of the game was set early. Standout player, Kiah Gongaware was injured on the Huskies' first offensive play, a tough break for Battle Mountain. Thoughts and prayers go out to "King Kong" Kiah Gongaware moving forward.

Kai Haggan hung in there at quarterback, assisted by Jeremiah Vasquez and Martin Velasco holding the line on both sides of the ball.

New on the scene was Dalton Patterson. His pass receptions aided Battle Mountain's two touchdowns. A 57-yard haul, coupled with a 38-yard TD, gave the Huskies a chance at 13-14 in the third.

Sailors Finn Russell and Jamison Tracy accounted for the lion's share of Steamboat's offense. Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball; fumbles, dropped passes, an interception and bad snaps cost downs.
Each team "went for it" on fourth downs in the middle of the field and turned the ball over more often than not.

The Sailors finished the game with a touchdown and extra point, for a 20-13.

The Huskies face the Glenwood Springs Demons in Edwards next week. Pre-game starts at 6:45 with kick-off at 7 p.m. on KZYR.

The Ruggs Benedict, Red Carpet
"Player of the Game"

The Bighorn Toyota
"Drive of the Game"
came on a 77-yard drive in the second quarter. Patterson reception added to a Hagan TD, gave the Huskies hope.
