Huskies no match for the Summit Tigers on their Homecoming, fall 35-14 in the Battle of Vail Pass!

The Battle Mountain Huskies move to 2-4 on the season after losing to the Summit County Tigers, 35-14.

The Huskies struggled on defense, allowing the Tigers early success. The Tigers drove down the field on their first and second possessions and scoring easily.

Battle Mountain showed some life in the second quarter, scoring on a drive that consisted of a long pass play to Spencer Goldberg, capped by a screen to Anthony Sanchez who scampered in.

Kai Hagan was back at the helm at quarterback and Ryan Huck came in for a couple good runs from the backfield. Kiah Gongaware was flying all over the field, as well, on both offense and defense.

Both teams were hamstrung by penalties and unsuccessful offensive drives. The Huskies actually punted the ball more in this game than in past games.

Anthony Sanchez offered the Huskies a glimmer of hope in the fourth quarter when he ran a kickoff return 85 yards for a touchdown to make the score 14-28 with 8:55 to go in the final frame.

Cold weather conditions made the ball quite hard to hold late in the fourth quarter with back-to-back-to-back fumbles at the end of the game.

The Huskies missed the senior leadership of Jimmy Hancock and Lucas Zivelonghi who were both out with injuries and Martin Velazco who was out over half the game.

The Summit Tigers held on to win 35-14.

The Huskies face the Steamboat Springs Sailors in Edwards next week. Pre-game starts at 6:45 with kick-off at 7 p.m. on KZYR.

The Ruggs Benedict, Red Carpet
"Player of the Game" was Anthony Sanchez who scored twice in the game, once from 41 and another from 85 (kickoff return TD).  Anthony edged out Spencer Goldberg who was all over the field on both sides of the ball.

The Crossline Studios
"Block of Granite" lineman of the game again goes to Jeremiah Vasquez, anchoring both sides of the line.

The Bighorn Toyota
"Drive of the Game" came in the second quarter with a balanced scoring drive punctuated by a 35 yard pass to Goldberg and 41 yard TD run by Sanchez.
