Huskies hustle in 2 OT loss, 34-36

The Battle Mountain Huskies move to 2-2 on the season after falling in a heartbreaking double overtime loss to the Moffat County Bulldogs Friday night, 34-36.
The first quarter started with a sustained drive by the Bulldogs, deep into Huskies territory. An interception by Elijah Morales on his own goal line resulted in a 60 scamper to the Moffat County 40 yard line.  The Huskies moved the ball, but were unable to convert the pick into any points.
A back and forth in the second quarter with a safety by the Bulldogs, put them up 2-0, but Parker Lutz's interception set up a 49-yard scamper by standout  Kiah Gongaware to the end zone, making the score 7-2 after a successful point after attempt.
Gongaware then chalked up a "pick 6" with :47 seconds in the half, giving Battle Mountain a 14-2, halftime lead.

Ki Haggen left the game in the 3rd Quarter with a leg injury

Battle Mountain quarterback Ki Haggan was injured early in the third quarter and Liam Mattison got the nod. Botched snaps and fumbles from both sides slowed offensive progress. Ryan Huck caused some commotion on defense, Martin Velasco and Jeremiah Vasquez contributed as well.
The teams traded blows, running around the ends throughout the game with an occasional completed pass. Each team recovering turnovers. Battling for ground at mid-field, special teams and bounces decided the game.

The game wound up in overtime, 22-22.  Each team starts from the opposing 10 yard line. A pair of blocked overtime PATs made special teams play tantamount in the tilt. There was no giving up in this dog fight.

In the second overtime, Battle Mountain couldn't convert a 2-point conversion to tie the game, ending on a goal-line play, falling inches short in this thrilling 34-36 double overtime loss.

The Battle Mountain Huskies face Woodland Park at home in Edwards next 9/27 @ 7 p.m.
