Sink or Swim this Summer’s End at Avon’s Cardboard Regatta

Avon, CO – The Town of Avon along with Colorado SUP Co. will host competitors in carboard boats Sunday, September 5,  as part of the weekend-long Summer’s End celebrations in Harry A. Nottingham Park. The race will begin at approximately 3 p.m. as teams try to make it one lap in watercraft made of only cardboard.
               
This race is designed for fun! Each boat must hold a minimum of two people per team, so it’s the perfect opportunity to bring together family and friends in an epic fight for cardboard championship. Boats and paddles must be made of broken-down corrugated cardboard and adhesive, but beyond that teams are encouraged to get creative with design. Judges will award teams based on the fastest race time, the most creative boat design, and the most dramatic sinking.

Prizes for each category are:

• 1st place = Avon Recreation Center Family Membership – 1 month for each category

• 2nd place = Avon Recreation Center Punch Cards Valued at $54 for each category

• 3rd place = Avon Recreation Center Group Swim Lessons Valued at $45 for each category

Interested teams are encouraged to pre-register at Active.com before September 3. Registration is free and participants of all ages are welcome. More information about Summer’s End and rules for the Cardboard Regatta can be found at Avon.org.
 
After the final boat crosses the finish line (or doesn’t), head over to the Terrace on the back of the Performance Pavilion for SunsetLIVE! Featuring Turntable Revue and then Robby Peoples Band.
 
Transportation & Parking: The use of public transportation is encouraged, as well as walking or riding a bike to the park. Free parking is available.
