Sassy and sexy, Let your attitude determine your under gament.
I believe that fashion is more about attitude than anything else. If you have the right attitude, you can pull off anything. I recall one Halloween in New York City in which I was invited to an “A” List party. Celebs, costume contest, great DJ- a great time indeed. I headed to the best place I could think of to outfit my fright night fantasy which took me to none other than Patricia Field- best known for her stylings on Sex and the City. (who by the way is having a 25% off sale on lingerie for Valentine’s day- located at patriciafield.com)- Not really knowing what I was going to find I had an open mind. I had to be sassy. I had to be different. I walked straight to the lingerie. It was there that I found the answer to all of my whatever kind of fantasy I had. Hot Pink sequins hot pants. I reiterate, hot pink sequins hot pants. And they had to be mine. The matching bra was white. So there it was. My Halloween costume. Sequins undies. I had a hot pink beehive wig that stood approximately 2 feet tall, a pink feather boa and fantastic silver platform boots to complete the look. Just to be clear, I did get a few people slipping me dollar bills as I was dancing the night away… unintentional, but an added bonus indeed.
Needless to say, my Halloween would not have been complete without the attitude, but more importantly, it would have been a lost cause without the perfect set of lingerie. I will never forget what those hot pink hot pants did for my attitude. Lingerie is the secret to great fashion. Lingerie creates mystery. Lingerie creates subtlety. Lingerie creates shape. And best of all, lingerie can create the right kind of attitude for the right kind of look.
It is my humble opinion that lingerie is something on which to splurge. A great fitting bra is more important than almost anything. Let’s face it- cleavage is a powerful thing.
The underwear says it all ladies. How can you possibly feel good on the outside if you are not feeling great underneath it all. I believe that lingerie is one of the most important ingredients to a great look! To me lingerie can be broken down into two pieces alone. The bra, and the undies. These two articles of clothing can tell a lot about a girl and the mood she is in that day.
Let’s take the black bra. How great does putting on a black bra make you feel? I am certain sexy, perhaps a little racy… but no doubt when the black bra comes out- your mood goes from blah to va va va voom. Even if it is due to practicality, a black bra is the ultimate in attitude transformation.
However, I believe that color in your undergarments is a necessity. My favorite bra to date is one that I purchased at Lacy’s in Edwards. It is hot pink (I see a theme here..) with black polka dots and black lace- designed by Betsy Johnson- who makes GREAT fitting bras. Of course this has to be worn carefully. I am not a fan of showing off your undergarments. I think that a woman’s look is much classier if the lines and color don’t show. That is for when your clothes come off. Only you and yours should be privy to the details of your underneaths.
Which brings me to the next item of detail. Panty lines are NEVER okay! That is why the thong was invented. Many women complain that a thong is not comfortable. I beg to differ. A thong, like t-shirts, comes in many sizes and shapes. The key is finding the one that works for you. My favorite of all time is the Hanky Panky. Apparently a lot of women love the Hanky Panky. It used to be that I could only get them at Neiman Marcus, but now they have popped up everywhere. Roxy, Lacys, Bare Essentials, PE 101. Everywhere you look these days it seems you can find yourself a different color or model. The Hanky Panky is stretch lace. It worked for me during my pregnancy, and it works for me now. It is comfortable, rides low, doesn’t bunch and is seamless. The biggest bonus is that they don’t dig in to the side- so pants and skirts generally lay flat. The Hanky Panky comes in low rise or regular fit. So you have a choice. The low rise work really well with today’s styles of belly button baring pants. The regular fit is great for skirts or dresses because they sit at your waist so you really are seamless.
For a really seamless look a girl’s best friend has to be the Spanx. I am feeling a little guilty about blabbing the secrets of the toned looking tush- but these are fantastic. They come in tights, body shapers, bras and undies, socks and even maternity! Spanx are great for all sizes. They trim you up and shape you down. The bra reduces visible bra lines which is great for T-shirts. Spanx are available locally at Lacy’s in Edwards, or you can purchase them online at spanx.com.
With all of this talk of practicality, let’s not forget the most important detail of lingerie. It is meant to make you feel beautiful. We all know how much better we feel when we have a matching set of undies on. It somehow makes the outfit on the outside complete. And lingerie goes far beyond Victoria’s Secret. Lingerie can equal haute couture. You can easily pay over $100 for a bra. And that is on the low end. The trick with lingerie is to find what makes you feel sexy and sassy. What is comfortable and most importantly what fits! Don’t give away your secrets, keep them under there!
For local purchases head over to Bare Essentials or Lacy’s in Riverwalk. They carry different lines and different price ranges. I recommend stopping by both for the best selection.
