Were the Grammys sending a message last night by awarding the Dixie Chicks with numerous trophies or just simply rewarding a great musical effort?  or both?

It seems the recording industry was trying to matter. Scoring a coup with the Police reunion something usually reserved for bombastic fundraisers like Live Aid, the blonde trio had to be a ratings winner. but was that their dandruff falling on top of the Chili Peppers during their lame reading of "Snow'?  

The Dixie Chicks are of course the big winners and their album "Not Ready to a Make Nice" but the Grammys also did themselves proud with selections like the aforementioned Red Hot Chili Peppers selection for Rock album of the year and Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and John Mayer all bringing home hardware.

 Most of the performances were adequate if not inspired and hopefully the world is ready for a new star in Robin Troup who had a very pleasing performance just seconds after being selected by fan vote to perform.  Her dancing and singing in duet with Justin Timberlake (who I am sorry to say continues to impress and grow as an artist) was a show highlight considering the circumstances.

 Are the Grammys hip? Well with MTV falling off the deep end maybe the Grammys are back.
