U2 announced they have rescheduled all previosuly cancelled concerts including their Red Rocks show for May 21, 2011.
ive Nation Entertainment announces today (July 13) that all 16 U2 360° tour dates in the U.S., which were recently postponed due to Bono's emergency back surgery, have been rescheduled for Spring/Summer 2011, with all tickets being valid at the rescheduled performances.
The 2010 European tour, which was not been affected, begins as scheduled on Aug. 6 in Turin, Italy.
U2's
manager Paul McGuinness thanked fans for their ongoing support. "We're
delighted the dates are rescheduled and in all the same venues we
originally planned to play," he said in a prepared statement. "It
hasn't been easy to accomplish this, and I'd like to thank the managers
of the many venues and sports teams across North America and Live
Nation Global Touring for their help and cooperation in making this
complex new plan possible. Above all we want to thank the U2 fans for
bearing with us. They're the best and the band wants to get back to
where they belong,
The
U2 360° Tour is produced by Live Nation Global Touring and sponsored in
2010 by BlackBerry. More than 1 million tickets had been sold to the 16
North American shows prior to their postponement, worth more than $100
million in box office revenue. Last year, 360 grossed more than $311
million and sold more than 3 million tickets, according to Billboard
Boxscore. Year Two would have taken the tour toward $600 million in box
office, topping the $558 million generated by the Rolling Stones'
2005-2007 Bigger Bang tour; now it looks like that U2 may not top that
milestone mark until 2011.
These are not uncharted
waters for the band. U2's 2005-2007 Vertigo tour had to postpone an
Asia/Pacific leg for a time as a result of an illness in guitarist The
Edge's family. That tour went on to gross $389 million, currently third
all time.
Cancelled Tours Suggest Brutal Summer for Touring Acts
"It
all worked out in the end, and the most important part was everybody
was fine and healthy," Live Nation Global Touring chairman Arthur Fogel
told Billboard.biz in an earlier interview, expressing confidence at
that time that the 360 dates would be rescheduled soon. "It's the
intersection of life and entertainment. You do what you do, you sort it
out, and make it all work in the end."
