The WHO Dat Not Beat Dem Saints

For once the football was better than the commercials and the halftime show, with Saints outplaying the Colts and The Who.

We are a rock and roll station so it is important to us to comment on the Who performance on Super Bowl Sunday. And you kind of had to feel for the old men.  It's a big stage and they are Rock And Roll Royalty. They could have sucked, they could have soared. They did neither.

Roger Daltry is really out of sorts and his golden throat appears to be failing. He belted the best he could but these are anthems for a teenage voice and the angst of Townsend's epic lyrics appear to be lost on someone  that is beginging to look like a grandfather.  Is it me or did he change the words from "Hope I die before i get old" to somthing like  "I haven't died but i am old?"

Townsend is a little repetivie with the windmill also. These guys have not prodeced an album of new material in years and it showed.  At least Springsteen's performance last year was invigorated by new music while the Who play some of the greatest songs ever but still....  A chance at a worldwide audience and the best you got is an inconsistent medley. At least Ringo's son Zak was pounding the drums and some decent keyboard saved the day. ( i will give kudos to Daltrey if in fact that was really him on harmonica).

They used to be called the Greatest rock band in the world but now they are half gone and something was truly missing. The stage was cool but they became famous for destroying things like lame stages. I rate them a solid C.

At least the Saints came marching in!
