Bart Cuomo, President of Vail Realty posted this comment on LinkedIn describing the demise of a Vail Apres Ski institution.
“Demolition of the interior of the Tap Room commenced this week bringing finality to the Tap Room and any hope that it may be revived. The local story is that the landlord wanted to convert the space to another ski locker club (just what Vail Village needs), but we understand that the Town of Vail is unwilling to change the existing “restaurant” zoning on the property. We all hope that the Town of Vail Council will not alter their position. We are hopeful that a new bar/restaurant catering to a similar crowd that the Tap Room attracted will emerge, however, with the landlord deciding to “scrape” the interior, the investment in tenant-finish will have to be substantial. This truly marks the end of an era in Vail as this site has for almost all of Vail’s history been occupied by a bart/restaurant way back to the Cyrano’s days. It is a most unfortunate day for Vail visitors and locals alike as yet “another bites the dust” and Vail Village loses a big part of its character.”
